Skin Deeps Day 1 fish of 54.78lbs was enough to win this years Key West Harbor King Mackerel Tournament. In year past this division 10 tournament is one that hials multiple 50+ and sometimes even 60lb smokers. Many would say this weekends conditions were by far some of the nicest fishing contitions in years. That being said were left wondering was the bite just slow or was it the decrease in this years participating teams that resulted in only two 50+ pound kings being scaled. Any 50 pound king in a tournamnet is respectable, but for those who have fished this division 10 event know these waters are home to some of the biggest king mackel around.

This event historically draws well over 100 teams, but when the announcemnt that this years 1st place prize money was cut in half from a 21 Contender boat motor and trailer package to only $10,000 allot of teams decided to keep thier boats on the trailers.

Take precautions when trialering your boat. Trailering can add new dimensions and a sense of freedom to boating that is why it’s so popular. If done safely trailering your boat gives one the freedom to boat just about anywhere. Trailering is one of the best ways to explore different waterways in your state or region. It is also the most affordable way to store a boat.

If you have never trailered a boat, there are several things you MUST consider. First is the towing capacity of your car, truck or SUV. This information can easily be found in your vehicle's owner's manual or online. Most standard pick-up trucks and SUVs can trailer boats up to 25 feet comfortably, but you should refer to your vehicles owner manual to be certain.

NEVER tow your boat trailer without checking the following:

    •    Coupler, hitch and hitch ball are of the same size
    •    Coupler and safety chains are safely secured to hitch of tow vehicle
    •    All fasteners are properly tightened
    •    Boat is securely strapped down to trailer (winch line is not a tie down)
    •    Wheel lug nuts are properly tightened
    •    Wheel bearings are properly adjusted and greased
    •    Load is within maximum load carrying capacity
    •    Tires are properly inflated and in good condition (no cracks)
    •    All trailer lighting is working properly
    •    Trailer brakes are properly adjusted and in working order (if applicable)
    •    Check local and state requirements regarding brakes and any additional equipment that may be required to safely trailer your boat
