Carolina Beach, North Carolina -A beautiful 44.45 king mackerel caught by Richard Boles and Doug Robson on the Toes Up was the only king in the forties, giving them a big win at the East Coast Got-Em-On.

“We were fishing with our two sons Richard J. Boles and Jordan Robson sixty miles south at the Myrtle Beach Rock,” said Boles.  “It was an early bite, 8:50 to be exact. We were fishing in fifty-seven feet of water when she ate a live pogy on the surface. It was certainly the biggest king we’ve ever scaled.”

The team put the fish in the boat at 9:55 then had to wait till two-thirty to come to the scales. “We knew she was a good fish but it was a real thrill when the event was over and we were the winners,” added Boles. “We’ve been fishing SKA for three years and finally got a good win.”

Toes Up is now in the points race lead for the Class of 23. The two juniors, Richard and Jordan, were the event’s Top Junior Anglers.

Second place went to the Reely Miss Behavin with a 38.35. Ricky Holden, Richard Clark, Steve Smith, and Marisa Game caught this king after moving from the beach in the morning. “We weren’t doing nothing so we thought we better move,” said Holden. “We found a good spot and hooked up three times. The first one went 18 pounds, the second one we lost, but the third was the motherload.”

The team was fishing thirty miles from the weigh-in site.  Richard caught the fish while Ricky did the gaff.

“Richard was putting out a line when the pogy we were fishing came right back to the props,” explained Ricky. “Richard jerked the rod back and it back lashed. That’s when she hit. It made one long run then came right back to the boat. When she came in the boat we were on our way to the scales.”

The Reely Miss-Behavin is a Yamaha powered Cape Horn. They are fifth in the Open Class Division Nine standings. Marisa was the events Top Lady Angler..

Third place went to a non-member.

The Screamin Deacon earned fourth with a 34.20 plus first in the Classs of 23.  The Denning’s, Larry, Allen, Hampton, Mark, and Marcus, a very good, focused team fished between Kura Pier and Fort Fisher. “There was a lot of bait on the beach and the Pier area produced some good kings on Saturday,” said Larry after scaling their king. “Marcus enticed the king to eat a surface trolled pogy about ten fifteen. He had her to my waiting gaff in a short fifteen minutes.”

This team has been fishing with SKA since ’96 and has won and placed in many events. Last year they won first place in Class of 23 three times. They are third in Class of 23 standings now after two events. They fish a Yamaha powered SportCraft.

Charles Randy Smith, Richard Williams, and Brad Fields caught a 34.10 fishing their Yamaha powered Contender, Got-Tu. “We were forty miles from the scale,” said team Captain Charles Randy Smith. “Richard hooked up at nine-fifteen after eating a pogy we had caught off the downrigger set forty-five feet deep. We were at the Shark Hole because experienced said we should be there. Guess that was right.” The 34-pound king earned them fifth place.

The Got-Tu is a very professional team scoring wins at Atlantic Beach and the U.S. Open event’s.

Seventh place went to the Hydra Sports team Black Gold. Jordan Williamson, Don Williamson,  Lawrence Bullard, and Mike McDuffie fished at the Hammer, fifty miles from the scales. “We had nothing but good reports earlier in the week from this area,” Jordan reported.

The team let Jordan do the honors while Mike was responsible for getting the 32.15 to the boat. “It was an early bite,” said Jordan. “We had her in the boat a little after nine.”

The Black Gold is now in second place in the Open Class in the Division Nine standings.

Miss Janelle’s 31.00  earned Chris Dawson and Brad High eighth.  Fishing a Sea Hunt, powered by Yamaha, the team moved to seventh in the Class of 23.

The Miss Janelle was one of two teams with a Class of 23 boat to earn a top ten finish plus they earned second in Class of 23.

Trick C scaled a 30.75 to earn ninth.  Jeff York, Craig Drye, Wesley Ross, Sonny York, and Arthur Dennis Hall, fished the Yamaha powered Contender.

The 2004 Angler of the Year, Dean Spatholt, earned tenth place fishing the Fish Meister. He scaled a 30-pound king.  They are now in third in the Division standings.

The Got-Em-On is a big event in North Carolina attracting over two hundred competitive teams each year. Congratulations to them for another great year.
